What should I bring to Forest School?
Clothing for babies and non-walkers
During summer months we recommend the following:
Long sleeved tops and trousers, feet covered to reduce the risk of insect bites
Sun hat and sunscreen
Changing bag including full change of clothes and a waterproof
Clothing for holiday club and parent participants
During summer months we recommend the following:
Sturdy footwear preferably walking boots or shoes, no sandals or flip flops
Full length trousers or leggings
Long sleeve shirt or t-shirt
Sun hat and sunscreen
Lightweight waterproof jacket and trousers
Full set of spare clothes including underwear
Mosquito repellent
Medicines
Please ensure that your child has any medicines and the accompanying instructions with them that they need. For example; asthma inhalers, epi-pens or hay-fever treatments. A labelled freezer bag helps to avoid any confusion.
Can I book a one-off session?
We would recommend booking a block of sessions rather than just one. Forest School is a long-term process of frequent and regular sessions in a woodland or natural environment. Planning, adaptation, observations and reviewing are integral elements of Forest School.
Is there parking on-site?
There is ample parking at all of our sites but you will have to walk up to 800m across a mixture of terrains to access our teaching areas, so sensible footwear is essential.
Can I bring a buggy?
We recommend using a sling or baby carrier rather than a buggy, as the path from the car park to the woodland runs across broken ground and possibly long grass. Additionally sensible footwear is essential.
What time should I arrive?
The walk in from the car park is approximately 800 metres and through the woods along woodland paths and tracks. Depending on the time of year you can expect to see a thriving ecosystem with an abundance of plant life, wild flowers, butterflies and the occasional deer or squirrel. You should allow 10-15 minutes for the walk in, following the "A Little Bit Wilder" signs, this gives you and your children the time to transition away from the urban influences of the city, town or village to something “A Little Bit Wilder” ready to discover your adventurous side.
Are the sessions weather-dependant?
We will run in most weather conditions, however reserve the right to cancel for heavy snow, high winds or lightening as these could cause safety issues within the forest. We would contact all customers as soon as possible, should we need to cancel on safety grounds, and would offer a full refund or the chance to book an alternative session. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for latest news and updates.
Are there toilet facilities?
We have basic toilet and handwashing facilities at all our sites usually a composting toilet. Please bring a changing bag, should you need to.
Do you cater for all dietary requirements?
We can cater for a variety of dietary requirements, but please let us know of these when booking.
